Top Plates - a Word on the Summit

Purpose
By placing a Scripture verse on a plaque at the top of a mountain, we hope to encourage all people that God has made us and gave us these mountains to enjoy. We declare that our hope and salvation is found in His Son, Jesus Christ.

Instructions for placing top plates
Materials: plates, screws, washers (all stainless steel) and plugs (plastic). Tools: Hilti drill bit (6mm) and small lock-grip (vise-grip) pliers, hammer (a rock or ice hammer works well).

Method
Put the lock-grip pliers on the Hilti drill bit firmly. Then start knocking gently on the head of the drill bit while slowly rotating the pliers clockwise (from 7 o'clock to 11 o'clock when right handed). Soon a little hole will form. The deeper the hole will become, the harder you can knock. One hole takes not more than 5 minutes.

Advice

  1. Try drilling out on horizontal ground before going vertical.
  2. You should make a tape marking on the drill as how far to drill (3cm).
  3. While drilling you should regularly take the drill out and blow the drill dust out of the hole. With a machine the dust comes out automatically because of the rotation of the drill, but not when you drill by hand.
  4. You need a Hilti drill bit (or a similar brand) because a normal 6mm drill bit will brake.
